Apple Gift Card regions: what to check before you buy

An Apple Gift Card adds money to your Apple Account balance. You can spend it on apps, games, subscriptions such as iCloud+ and Apple Music, and other Apple purchases. The one thing to check is the country: a card works only with an Apple Account from the same country or region.

Why the country matters

Apple issues gift cards for a specific country, in that country's currency. An Apple Account is also tied to a country or region. If the two don't match, the card can't be redeemed on that account.

How to check your Apple Account's country

• On iPhone or iPad: open Settings, tap your name, then Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region.
• On a Mac: open the App Store, click your name, then Account Settings.

Which card to choose

Choose the card for your account's country — the country is part of the product name, for example Apple USA, Apple UK or Apple Germany. At the time of writing, the shop has Apple Gift Cards for more than 20 countries, including the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia and most of Europe. Older iTunes Gift Cards are redeemed to the same Apple Account balance.

Why you shouldn't switch countries to use a card

Changing your Apple Account's country isn't a formality: Apple asks you to spend your remaining balance and cancel your subscriptions first, and some of your purchases may not be available in the new country. It's simpler and safer to buy the card for the country your account already uses.

How to redeem the card

• On iPhone or iPad: open the App Store, tap your photo, then Redeem Gift Card or Code.
• On a Mac: open the App Store, click your name, then Redeem Gift Card.
• In a browser: go to apple.com/redeem and sign in with your Apple Account.
